Mestalla brimming with emotions running high
Relive the emotional events that took place in the run-up to Valencia CF-Real Betis to pay tribute to the victims and those affected by the tragic flash floods
Hugo Guillamón is preparing for a new season in the ranks of the Valencia CF first team squad. He has played a part in what has been a successful preseason so far, and is looking forward to further action on Wednesday against Real Zaragoza.
"We're here now to prepare for Wednesday's game against Real Zaragoza and to continue with our preparations, as well as bringing together the group ahead of the start of the season," says Guillamón, who is now a firm fixture in the first team squad. This season, he hopes to gain the trust of new coach José Bordalás.
"The coach was clear with all of us from the start," reveals the VCF Academy product. "He explained everything that he was going to be looking for this season, and everything that he was going to ask of us. We've been working with him for a few weeks, and we're gradually seeing the mark he wants to make on the team."
Whilst he has predominantly featured as a centre back, Guillamón has been used in a different role thus far in preseason, and believes that he can adapt to any requirement.
"At the moment I'm playing more as a central midfielder. The coach feels that I can play in that position, and that's what I'm here for: To help the team.
"I've been tried out in that position for several years. I've felt more and more comfortable there. I think I'm in good shape now, preparing in these weeks before the league starts. I think that it's going to be a great year."
